Mitsubishi Electric Substation Division (SSD) provides PV-ESS to both the Power Utility Industry and the Commercial & Industrial segments. The systems value propositions center upon four attributes of each project. First, MEPPI is incredibly flexible in how to provide a PV-ESS to our customers. Types of Projects
SSD is positioned at the heart of the Photovoltaic Systems, which is designed around the Mitsubishi Electric Inverter. From the smallest to the largest installations, the inverter is part of the package that almost always includes.
Secondly, our PV-ESS systems are defined by the design of each project, fitting within our container model. SSD container model based upon building blocks from a battery storage cell, to a module, to a stack and to a container. When the container is shipped to the customer site, there is no complex and tedious assembly required. The container is simply added to the array and the Battery Management System (BMS).
Thinking about this on a larger scale is the real focus of SSD PV-ESS. In the environment of utility grade solar installations, acres of land are populated with solar panels that are generating kilo or mega watts of hourly power.
In considering the size and breadth of any given PV project, SSD can provide a full turnkey installation of the PV-ESS solution. While the solar panels are, by themselves, a signi cant installation endeavor; the PV-ESS system including the inverter, the power network, the PV-based substation and the BESS solution are all equally important. Mitsubishi Electric and the SSD both have the experience, scale and relationships that allow us to work with each client no matter the size or North America location that these facilities will be installed. Our experience in energy storage, substation design, medium and high voltage switchgear, FACTS, HVDC conversions are all relevant to create a broad and valuable toolbox to assist our customers.
Furthermore, if distributed Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) are part of the PV-ESS project, SSD has the building block including battery storage in preconfigured containers that can be placed in either indoor or outdoor locations. Considering the geographic size of any PV installation is quite challenging.
In the illustration, we see that a rural or desert installation of a solar plant is the equivalent of a major city. In this scenario, Mitsubishi can play a central role as a full turnkey services entity in ensuring that this gathered energy is stored, packaged and transmitted in the appropriate formats and quality.
